It's the first day of fall in the Northern Hemisphere. The leaves are beginning to change and social media is rapidly filling with images of Homecoming proposals and #pumpkinspice everything. For high school seniors these moments of whimsy are slowly turning to the realization that one year from now they will have begun their next journey in life: college.

So your son or daughter dreams of being the next LeBron James, Serena Williams, or Lionel Messi…but you’ve made it clear: college comes first. That’s okay for them because they’ll be recruited by top schools AND college will be paid for with an athletic scholarship, right? Not necessarily.

While crossing the stage at high school graduation, fear fills the minds of the parting seniors. As if the thought of getting through this ceremony isn’t enough to engulf them in a blanket of stress, these newly-minted responsible young adults will soon realize that freshman move-in day at their chosen university is just 2 ½ months away. Next up: a sinking feeling in their stomachs.

It’s only February but most high school students have already begun counting the days until their spring break. Even as snow continues to fall in many parts of the U.S., students are dreaming of beaches and movies and mall trips…a two-week respite before blazing through the final months of the school year.
