Are you looking for additional money for college? While many colleges offer automatic scholarship consideration based on your application for admission, many also have scholarships with additional application requirements and/or deadlines that vary from the published application plans. As if the college search and application process isn't complicated enough, the ease of finding these opportunities adds another layer of complexity. The location of this info on college websites can vary; some are front and center, while others take a bit of detective work to uncover. But, don't worry! We crowd-sourced our independent educational consulting colleagues in both IECA and HECA to put together a list of “hidden” scholarship opportunities. While this list isn't exhaustive, it's pretty robust!
Agnes Scott
Students must apply by January 15 to be guaranteed to receive the Agnes Scott $100K promise (if a student is admitted for Fall, they will receive at minimum a $25,000 renewable merit-based scholarship annually).
In addition to the automatic merit scholarships, Agnes Scott offers several scholarships with additional applications. See the details and applications available at the link above.
Attend an official campus visit and receive the Agnes Scott Campus Visit Award, a $2,000 award renewable for four years, totaling $8,000.
Alfred University
Alfred offers a visit grant of $1000/year, renewable for each year students are enrolled. To be eligible, make an official campus visit by March 1.
Allegheny College
Allegheny has three scholarships with additional applications. Creative & Performing Arts Scholarships are available to both students planning major in the arts, and also to non-majors who plan to participate in the arts. Students must fill out a scholarship form in their applicant portal. The Pears Family Scholarship is specifically for students graduating from Lakeview High School and has a Google form application. A Ministerial Tuition Discount is available for students who are children of ordained Deacons and Elders of the United Methodist Church by completing the application form.

Arizona State University
Students should apply to Arizona State by November 1 for maximum scholarship consideration. ASU has applications for additional internal ASU awards and external scholarships available through ScholarshipUniverse. Individual scholarship deadlines vary.
Auburn University
In addition to automatic competitive merit scholarships, Auburn has additional merit scholarship opportunities available through the Auburn University Scholarship Opportunity Manager (AUSOM) portal. Incoming students who have been accepted can access AUSOM through AU Access. Students should complete the scholarship application by February 12 to receive consideration for general and departmental scholarships.
Bard offers several scholarships with additional applications at the link above. Submit both your application for admission and the scholarship applications by November 1 for early applicants or January 15 for regular decision applicants.
Belmont University
Students must apply by November 1 to be eligible for the top merit scholarships. In addition to the automatic merit scholarships, Belmont offers departmental and talent-based scholarships with additional application requirements. Boston College
The Gabelli Presidential Scholars Program does not have a separate application, but students must submit their admissions applications by November 1 - regardless of application plan - to be considered.
Boston University
Boston University’s Presidential Scholarships have an application deadline of December 1 - regardless of application plan - to be considered for these scholarships. For the Trustee Scholarship, complete the additional Trustee prompt in your Common App. Nothing additional is needed for the Presidential Scholarship, other than meeting the December 1st submission deadline.
Fine Arts scholarships are granted to students who demonstrate outstanding artistic talent in an audition or through a portfolio review; students must apply by Nov 1.
The Methodist Clergy Scholarship covers half-tuition and is awarded to children of active, ordained Methodist ministers. Eligible students are advised to submit a letter from their resident Bishop indicating the family’s church of affiliation and confirming that the parent is an active, ordained Methodist minister. To submit, please email the letter with the applicants full name and BUID to finaid@bu.edu by Jan 6.
Bucknell University
Bucknell offers several scholarships that require students to submit a separate application, alongside their application for admission. Some require a Bucknell scholarship application while others require a program-specific application. Review the details at the link above for information on all opportunities. The deadline for the scholarship application is the same as the student's Bucknell application deadline.
Butler University
The Morton-Finney Diversity Scholar award requires that EA/ED applicants submit their admissions application by November 1, and the Morton-Finney Diversity Scholars application (available in the Butler status portal) is submitted by November 15. The Compass Center Scholarship requires that students apply EA or ED by November 1 and submit the scholarship application (available in the Butler status portal) by November 15. The Jordan College of the Arts Award requires an audition, interview, or artwork submission, and students are encouraged to apply by November 1 and audition early for the best opportunity.
Canisius University
Canisius University offers several specialized scholarships in addition to its automatic merit scholarships. Deadlines and application requirements vary; review the list at the link for details.
Case Western Reserve University
Case Western offers a select number of scholarships, including full-tuition awards, that require you to provide additional information and respond to an essay prompt. A complete application for admission should be submitted by the applicant deadline, and a complete scholarship application must be received by February 15 to be considered for these special awards.
Centre College
Centre College offers several scholarship categories with additional applications. For Premier scholarships (Grissom and Lincoln Scholars Programs), applicants may select any application plan (an early plan isn’t required), but the Common App must be submitted prior to December 1 to ensure that the Lincoln Scholars application can be submitted by December 1; the Grissom Scholars application must be submitted by January 15. Community-based, talent-based, and special program scholarships each have unique requirements, applications, and deadlines; review the information at the website above for specific details.
Clemson University
Students are eligible for consideration for the National Scholars Program and Breakthrough Scholars Program if they choose Early Action (Oct 15) on their Clemson application and if they meet the Honors Priority deadline for their Honors College Application (Oct 22).
The Lyceum Scholars program at Clemson has an additional application. Students must apply to Clemson and then complete the Lyceum application in their application portal by December 22.
College of Charleston
Applicants are automatically considered for institutional merit-based scholarships. However, to apply for departmental and privately-funded scholarships, students must apply through the Cougar Scholarship Award System (CSAS).
College of William & Mary
All applicants are reviewed as potential 1693 Scholars - there is no initial separate application process. Students who are selected as semi-finalists will need to submit an additional essay and a short video that will be used to select the finalists. Finalists will complete a virtual interview with two alumni as well as a virtual presentation to a faculty panel, and a small group will be invited for a weekend in April.
College of Wooster
To be considered for the Presidential Scholar and College Scholar awards, students must apply for admission by November 1. Wooster also offers several interest-based scholarships with additional applications. The Covenant Scholarship and Model UN Leadership Award require an additional scholarship application due December 1.
Colorado School of Mines
All prospective students will be invited to complete the General Scholarship Application (available through the Mines Scholarship Portal). Accepted students will be notified by email when the application is available, usually in December. The Mines Scholarship Portal and General Scholarship Application open opportunities to the PASCAL Scholarships (Harvey, Grewcock, Starzer, and Bliss) or department scholarship applications. Follow deadlines listed in the scholarship portal; they may be before or after the priority deadline for the General Scholarship Application.
Colorado State University
The CSU Scholarship Application (CSUSA) is a competitive online platform for many CSU scholarships. The CSUSA will be available online on students’ RAMweb beginning October 1. First year students must submit their application by February 1. Log in using your NetID and then select the CSU Scholarship Application link.
Davidson College
Davidson College has several scholarship opportunities that require either a nomination or an additional application. See the website link for information specific to each opportunity.
Delaware Valley University
In addition to automatic merit scholarships, Delaware Valley uses ScholarshipUniverse for additional opportunities. Log in with your Delaware Valley email address and complete your profile to be matched with and apply for scholarships.
DePaul University
Students must apply by the Early Action deadline of November 15 to be considered for the State Scholar Plus Scholarship. Early Action (November 15) is also the priority deadline for students to be considered for academic scholarships. Talent Scholarships have various application deadlines: Art scholarships require that students have applied to DePaul by February 1 and completed a general application in ScholarshipConnect as well as submitted a portfolio; the School of Music requires that students apply by December 1 and audition; and the Theatre School will consider all applicants once they have completed all application requirements, including an audition or interview (depending on major). The DePaul ScholarshipConnect website also lists various opportunities with additional applications; log in with your DePaul Blue Key to browse.
Dickinson College
A separate application is required for the Reynolds Leadership Scholarship (for top Maryland residents in a challenging high-school curriculum who have the potential to be leaders at Dickinson, in their communities and around the world) and the Dickinson-Cumberland County Scholarship (for a Cumberland County resident who wishes to make a positive impact in the community).
Drexel University
In order to apply to the Liberty Scholars program (Philadelphia high school students only), complete the Drexel Liberty Scholars application and essay online via the Enrichment & Scholarship Applications tab in Discover Drexel. The scholarship application must be submitted by November 18 for ED applicants with the FAFSA and CSS Profiles received by November 25, or February 1 for EA and RD applicants.
Duke University
Students must apply for the Robertson Scholars Leadership Program online by November 15. They also must apply separately for admission to Duke; they may apply to Duke by either the Early or Regular deadline.
The Spirit of Community Scholarship, Spirit of Excellence Scholarship, and STEM Scholars program require separate applications to be completed by January 15. The applications are available at the link above. The Educators of Impact Scholarship requires that students apply to Duquesne as an education major by March 15. Applications for the Merit-Based and Need-Based Alumni Generations Scholarships are open from January 1 through May 1.
Earlham College
Earlham offers a variety of scholarships; while some include automatic consideration based on the admissions application, others require an additional application. Explore the details of specific scholarships at the link above. Many of the scholarships require that students apply by the Early Action or Early Decision deadlines.
East Carolina University
East Carolina University offers three scholarships in conjunction with the honors college. The Brinkley-Lane Scholars award covers the full cost of attendance as well as a $5,000 study abroad stipend. Chancellor’s Fellows receive a scholarship covering full in-state tuition, and Centennial Fellows receive $2,500 each year. Students must apply for admission by November 1 to be eligible for the honors college and associated honors scholarships.
ECU also offers additional merit scholarships (not associated with the honors college) that have a separate application process. Students should apply to ECU for admission by December 15 in order to complete the scholarship application by the January 15 deadline.
Eckerd College
In addition to automatic merit scholarships that all students are considered for based on their admissions application, Eckerd has several scholarships with additional applications. Review the list at the link above for details and links to each scholarship.
Students in the Honors Program receive $15,000 annually, a $12,000 Presidential Scholarship, and a one-time $1,000 Global Study grant. Apply to Elon University Early Decision, Early Action or Regular Deadline by November 1 and to the Honors Program by November 10.
Each of the Fellows Programs at Elon offers scholarships to selected incoming Fellows. Fellows applications are available on the Elon Acorn Account once a first-year application has been submitted. All applications are reviewed and finalists for each program are invited to attend Fellows weekend in February. From these finalists, Fellows are selected on the basis of the application, qualifications and an interview. Apply to Elon University Early Decision, Early Action or Regular Deadline by November 1 and to Fellows by November 10.
The Phoenix Band Scholarship is awarded annually to 20 students. An unedited video recording demonstrating musical ability is required after the student’s admissions application has been submitted.
The Scholars program offers scholarships. To be considered, students must apply and be admitted to the Scholars program through the Elon Acorn Account after the admissions application has been submitted. The Scholars application opens February 1 and the deadline is April 15.
Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University
Students can apply for scholarships throughout the year through their ERNIE portal. A variety of additional outside scholarships are available at the link above as well; check the specific scholarships for their applications & deadlines.
Emory University
Emory University offers partial to full merit-based scholarships as part of the Emory University Scholar Programs. No additional application is needed, but to be considered for any scholar programs, students must select one of the three admission decision plans (Early Decision I, Early Decision II, or Regular Decision) and submit all required application materials by November 15. Those applying Early Decision I must apply by November 1. You also must answer "yes" to the question on your application that says, "Do you wish to be considered for merit scholarships?"
George Mason University
Students must apply by the Nov 1 EA deadline to be considered for automatic merit scholarships. Additional Scholarship opportunities for continuing students are also available at the link above, as well as a list of outside scholarship opportunities for both incoming and current students.
George Washington University
George Washington University has several scholarship opportunities with additional application requirements. Review the individual scholarship information and application requirements on the website.
Georgia Institute of Technology
Students must apply by the Early Action deadline to be considered for the Stamps President’s Scholars Program. No additional information is needed at the time of application other than meeting the early deadline, however, finalists will be invited to participate in Stamps Scholars Weekend in March for additional activities and interviews.
Georgia State University
The Stamps and Presidential Scholarships require a separate application (available at the link above). Both the scholarship application and your admissions application must be submitted to Georgia State by November 15.
Applicants for the Trustee Scholarship Program must apply for admission by November 1 (and music majors must plan to audition prior to Dec. 1 so that your audition can be considered alongside your Trustee Scholarship application). Complete the Trustee Scholarship application by Nov. 1. You can access the Trustee Scholarship application in the Grove City College application portal. If you’ve already started an application for admission, you will need to log in and select “Start New Application” to begin the Trustee Scholarship application.
Students interested in the President's Scholars and Provost’s Scholarship must apply for admission by January 31 for priority consideration and submit their enrollment deposit by April 1.
To be fully considered for all awards, students should apply by the Early Action application deadline of November 15. Top scholar candidates will be invited to increase their initial scholarship amount by interviewing on campus during three separate weekends in January and February.
Hobart and William Smith Colleges
Hobart and William Smith Colleges offers several scholarships with additional applications: the Melly Scholarship, Centennial Center Leadership Scholarship, Edward E. Rigny Debate Scholarship, Civic Engagement Scholarship, and Arts Scholars Program. Students must apply for admission first to be able to access the scholarship application. The due date for the scholarship application aligns with the student’s chosen admissions deadline. For the Melly scholarship, strong preference is given to candidates who apply Early Action or Early Decision.
Indiana University
Students must apply to Indiana by November 1 to be considered for an academic scholarship based on their admissions application. Additional scholarships are available through the IU Scholarship Application, which should be completed by March 1. A Computing Account (assigned after admission) is required to access and submit the IU Scholarship Application.
The Wells Scholars Program at Indiana uses a nomination process rather than an application process. In August, the Wells Scholars Program will circulate nomination materials and instructions to counselors and administrators at all Indiana high schools and out-of-state high schools on their list. Counselors at other high schools should contact the program at wellssch@indiana.edu for information on how to nominate. Nomination materials are due on November 1, and the student must apply to IU by November 1 as well. Each school may select up to 2 nominees per year; IU will not accept self-nominations from schools that haven't used their two nomination slots. Students not selected by their school or who otherwise wish to participate (i.e. homeschool, etc.) may self-nominate without the initial counselor endorsement during nomination season.
Ithaca College
Ithaca College offers several scholarships with additional applications. The Presidential Scholarship application is due November 1. The Leadership Scholar Program, Martin Luther King Scholar Program, Park Scholar Program, and Innovation Scholar applications are due December 1. Students can apply online for these scholarships after they have submitted their Common Application so they should submit early enough to be able to complete the scholarship applications by the deadlines.
John Carroll University
A $2000 Discovery Visit and Apply Grant is awarded to all students who apply for admission by November 1 and make an official visit to campus by February 1.
A number of Academic, Alumni, Regional, and Special Interest Scholarships are available. Applications will be available in the applicants’ myJCU Gateway Portal.
John Carroll partners with the Howley Foundation for low-income (typically full Pell Grant eligible) students who are graduates of Saint Martin de Porres, Benedictine, Villa Angela Saint Joseph, or Saint Joseph Academy high schools. Students should reach out to the designated Howley Foundation alumni coordinator at their high school to apply.
JCU provides five scholarship opportunities each year to students attending Say Yes eligible schools in Cleveland, OH. Apply on the Say Yes Website.
Kansas State University
Kansas State offers several competitive scholarships that require additional supplemental application materials and/or a selective interview process. See the link above for specific requirements for each scholarship. All competitive scholarship applications are available in your Admitted Student Portal and are due by 5pm on December 15.
Kent State University
Kent State uses ScholarshipUniverse for additional scholarship opportunities. Create a profile that enables you to connect with various internal and external scholarship opportunities. To use the portal, you must be an admitted or continuing student at Kent State.
Kenyon College
Kenyon College offers five full-tuition scholarships to students from Ohio. Complete the separate application form (available at the link above) in addition to the application for admission.
Lehigh University
Lehigh’s Soaring Together Scholarship Program requires students to submit a scholarship application along with a submission in the format of their choice regarding gender equity by February 1.
Several arts scholarships are available to students with additional applications; the Cutler-Sametz Choral Arts Scholarship, Snyder Family Marching Scholarship, and Performing Arts Scholarship in Music applications are due January 10, while the Performing Arts Scholarship in Theatre application is due February 10.
The College of Health Scholars is a competitive scholarship for students entering into the College of Health who demonstrate leadership, intellectual curiosity and a commitment to improving human health in the U.S. and around the world. Students apply to Lehigh University with the College of Health as their intended college by January 1, and also submit the College of Health Scholars Application by February 1.
Students should apply by November 1 (EA) for maximum automatic scholarship consideration. RD and rolling admissions will be considered for any remaining scholarships/awards.
The Alumni Distinguished Scholarship does not require a separate initial application, however, students must apply for admission to MSU by November 1 and will be invited to compete in the scholarship competition. Several awards are available through the competition.
Several additional scholarships are available that require an additional application or supplemental submission. See “criteria-specific scholarships” at the link above for details and links to the applications.
Middle Tennessee State University
Middle Tennessee State University offers several scholarships that require additional applications: The Buchanan Fellows, The Honors Freshman Scholarship, the Creighton & Elizabeth Hay Rhea Centennial Scholarship, and the Ralph & Elizabeth Gwaltney Centennial Scholarship.
The Buchanan Fellows has two options for submitting applications. The Early Review Deadline: November 1; applicants choosing this option must commit to the Buchanan Fellowship as their first choice if selected. The Regular Review Deadline: December 1; this option allows applicants more time to consider their college choices.
The Honors Centennial Scholarships are not available every year, so students should check the link to see if a Centennial Scholarship is offered for the upcoming academic year. Students can stack these scholarships with other MTSU-guaranteed scholarships.
Students must be admitted to MTSU before completing the scholarship application for the Honors Freshman Scholarship, the Creighton & Elizabeth Hay Rhea Centennial Scholarship, and the Ralph & Elizabeth Gwaltney Centennial Scholarship. The scholarship application is available from December 1 - March 15.
Mississippi State University
Mississippi State has a General Scholarship Application (GSA) for competitive scholarships, including private, departmental, and leadership and service scholarships. Students must be admitted to complete the application. Log in to your MyState account and find the Scholarship block. The GSA opens on October 1st. The priority date for entering freshmen to submit the application is December 1. The priority date for transfer students to submit is March 1.
Montana State University
The general scholarship application platform, Cat Scholarships, opens to admitted students on November 1 and has a priority deadline of February 1. Students are encouraged to complete the Cat Scholarships application to be considered for departmental scholarships. Submitting a general Cat Scholarship application will provide students the ability to apply for some of MSU’s highest value scholarships in time to meet their application deadlines, such as the Presidential and Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE), which have strict application deadlines of December 1 and January 3, respectively.
New York University
New York University offers five scholarships in honor of fire, police, and emergency workers who were killed in the September 11, 2001 attacks at the World Trade Center. The scholarship is intended to enable their children to attend the university and supports the cost of tuition, registration fees, and room and board. New York University scholarship funds will be used to pay any remaining balance up to the full cost of education. Dependents and spouses of uniformed members of the Fire Department of the City of New York, the New York Police Department, the Port Authority Police Department, and other emergency response workers who died at the World Trade Center are given preferred consideration. There is no New York State residency requirement, but most require that you be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. Students must submit all financial aid applications by their deadlines and apply for the New York State World Trade Center Memorial Scholarship.
North Carolina State University
The Park Scholarship requires a separate application. Students must apply to NC State by November 1 and also complete the Park Scholarship application by November 1.
Northeastern University
In addition to the scholarships that all students are considered for, Northeastern offers the Torch Scholars Program for students who have overcome exceptional odds and demonstrated the potential for academic excellence. Students will participate in a Summer Immersion Program and receive full tuition, fees, and room and board. Personal and academic support is also provided. Students must be nominated by a school counselor, teacher, mentor, clergy, community worker, or another professional who has knowledge of their achievements and character.
Northeastern also names a small cohort of student Stamps Scholars. There is no initial application process, but there is a secondary application after admission; select admitted students will be invited to submit a video application for review. Students should check their email for additional information.
Ohio Christian University
Ohio Christian University offers a service scholarship that requires a separate application for students who have participated in community service. The application is available at the link above.
Ohio Northern University
Ohio Northern offers talent awards for students majoring in the visual and performing arts or in any of the English majors (English, creative writing, or English with teacher licensure). Students who minor in dance or participate in any of the auditioned ensembles can also qualify for a talent award. Talent award consideration requires an audition, portfolio review or interview. Students who are not majoring in music but plan to participate in ensembles (band, orchestra, or choir) can be considered for talent awards by completing the Talent Award Planning Form. Talent awards have a deadline of Dec 1 to submit information and/or apply for an audition.
Ohio Wesleyan University
Students should submit their admission application by January 15th for priority scholarship consideration for most merit scholarships; students wishing to apply to scholarships with additional applications should submit earlier in order to submit the scholarship applications by January 15th.
Departmental scholarships are awarded based on a competitive review (portfolio, audition, and/or interview) by respective departments. Students must submit their application for admission before applying for the Fine Arts and Performing Arts scholarships, and students will be notified upon admission if they are eligible to interview for awards provided by the Economics and Education departments.
The Meek Community Service and Leadership Scholarship rewards two incoming first-year students each year who exhibit outstanding participation in community service and strong leadership skills. Students should complete the application located in their admit portal with a priority deadline of January 15th and a final deadline of March 1.
The Choose Ohio First scholarship is available to incoming first-year students who intend to pursue studies in a STEM field. Once admitted to OWU, eligible students will be notified via email and will have access to the application in their student portal. Priority consideration will be given to students who submit the scholarship application by January 15th, however, students who apply by March 1 will still be considered as scholarships are available.
The Dr. Charles Thomas Scholarship is available annually to up to 25 high school students served by the Columbus, Ohio-based I Know I Can Program. Eligible students must apply for admission to Ohio Wesleyan by December 1 and are considered upon admission to the university; no separate scholarship application is required.
Any high school student who visits during their junior year OR before December 1 of their senior year will receive a $1,500 annual Visit Award, totaling up to $6,000. This award will be in addition to any merit-based scholarships received upon admission to OWU.
The OWU Referral Award is a $4,000 award ($1,000 per year) given to students who have been referred to OWU by an OWU alum, faculty, staff, current student or friend of the University. Referrals must be received by December 1 of the student's senior year of high school. The referral form is available here.
The Ohio State University
Students must apply by November 1 for merit scholarship consideration. Two scholarships involve additional applications. For the Stamps Eminence Scholarship, students must apply to the honors program on the Common App and then complete the separate Stamps Eminence Scholarship Application by November 9. For the Morrill Scholarship, students must indicate interest in the Morrill Scholarship Program and complete the MSP essay on the Common App. Be sure to include leadership and diversity involvement on the Activity List.
Ohio State also uses ScholarshipUniverse for additional scholarships. Log in using your Ohio State username (lastname.#) and password, create or log in to your account and answer questions about yourself to build your profile. Once you are matched to a scholarship, follow the prompts to complete any application requirements. February 1 is the priority date for OSU ScholarshipUniverse applications.
Ohio University
There is no additional application for merit scholarships, however, students must apply for admission by November 15 for priority consideration for the OHIO Excellence scholarships. An additional application, audition, portfolio review or interview may be required to compete for additional scholarships. Eligible students will be contacted with application instructions for those opportunities.
Students who meet Cutler Scholars eligibility requirements will be sent a supplemental application after they have submitted the Common Application, provided they met the initial November 15 Early Action deadline.
Pennsylvania State University

Pepperdine University
Pepperdine’s Scholarship Opportunities page offers a listing of available scholarships with a brief listing of qualifications. To apply, you must first sign in using your WaveNet credentials. You will then have the opportunity to complete a general application and, if applicable, apply for specific scholarships.
Purdue University
Students should submit their application for admission by the November 1 EA deadline for merit scholarship consideration.
Students should complete the Purdue Departmental Scholarship Application in ScholarshipUniverse by February 2 to be considered for additional college and school scholarships. Students can access ScholarshipUniverse through the admissions application portal login. ScholarshipUniverse will also match students to outside scholarships for which they may be eligible.
Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
In addition to the RPI merit scholarships that all students are considered for based on their application for admission, students can use ScholarshipUniverse to find and apply for named Rensselaer endowed awards and external scholarship opportunities.
Rochester Institute of Technology
In addition to automatic merit scholarships, RIT has several opportunities with specific selection criteria and/or an additional application; see the link above for a list and details of each scholarship.
Deaf and hard-of-hearing and hearing NTID-supported students receive support from the federal government and pay less than one-half of RIT's tuition. Students can receive scholarships in addition to the reduced rate. This tuition rate also applies to hearing students enrolled in the ASL-English Interpretation program. Deaf and hard-of-hearing students accepted to RIT and supported by the National Technical Institute for the Deaf (NTID), and students accepted directly to NTID are considered for NTID’s merit-based scholarships.
Roger Williams University
Roger Williams University offers the Shawmut scholarship, an annual scholarship ranging from $10,000 to $20,000 per year (depending on financial need) that supplements students' existing RWU aid, plus a paid internship with Shawmut Design and Construction, and a $2,500 yearly stipend to offset travel costs associated with the internship and externships. Students must be accepted to RWU, pursue a Construction Management major or minor, have financial need, be underrepresented in the field of Construction (i.e. female, first-generation), and commit to residing within a commutable distance to the Boston or Providence areas during the summer internship. Students must complete an essay to apply for the program.
Rollins College
The Alfond Scholars Program does not have a separate initial application, but students must apply to Rollins by the priority scholarship deadline of November 15. Qualified applicants will then be invited to participate in a virtual interview process. Students considered for the Alfond scholarship may also be considered for additional awards and recognitions, such as increased Dean’s Scholarships, Donald Cram Scholarship (awarded to science majors), and the Honors Degree Program.
Saint Louis University
Students interested in the Vice Presidents’, University, and Ignation Scholarship - Billiken Award do not have an additional scholarship application, but must submit their admission application by December 1.
The Presidential Scholarship requires a separate Presidential Scholarship application along with the application for admission, both due by December 1.
The Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship requires a separate Martin Luther King Jr Scholarship application along with the application for admission, both due by February 1.

San Diego State University
Sign in to the scholarship application portal using your SDSU email address and password. Submit one General Application, and the system will automatically match you to all scholarships for which you are eligible (you will not see this list of auto-matches). The system will then provide you with a list of recommended scholarships where you meet the basic requirements, but additional information must be submitted to apply. Applications will be available in the spring. Important: Incoming students MUST submit their Intent to Enroll to be matched to and awarded any scholarships through Aztec Scholarships.
Seton Hall University
Seton Hall has several scholarship opportunities available with additional applications. Students must also apply to Seton Hall for admission, but may apply for these scholarships prior to notification of admission. Review the scholarship list and access the applications at the link above.
Skidmore College
The Filene Music Scholarship is awarded to 4-6 students annually. Apply to Skidmore and complete the Filene application by January 15. Finalists will be invited to perform at the Filene Music Competition.
The Porter-Wachenheim Presidential Scholarship is for students with interests in math and/or science. After submitting an application to Skidmore, complete the Porter-Wachenheim portfolio in the applicant portal.
To apply for the President’s Scholarship, students must submit the SMU application by November 1 and the President's Scholars Program Application Essay (within the SMU Admissions student portal) by November 16.
St. Lawrence University
The Trustee Scholarship is awarded to the top first-year students in each enrolling class based on their academic excellence, character, and leadership. Semifinalists will be selected by the Office of Admissions and contacted in the late winter to schedule a Zoom interview.
The Specialty Scholarship Application is required for the Presidential Distinction Scholarship, St. Lawrence Leadership Program, and Vilas Scholarship for Business & Finance.
The Environmental Scholars Program does not have a separate application. However, information will be gathered from the submitted admissions application, so students should discuss all aspects of their environmental work and advocacy within the application.
To be considered for premier scholarships, first submit your application to Stetson University, then complete your Premier application through your Hatter Portal. The deadline for all Premier Scholarship and Program applications is December 1.
The NSF S-STEM Scholarship is available to students interested in a qualifying STEM major who Are Pell Grant eligible based on their FAFSA. After applying for admission, complete the NSF S-STEM Scholarship Application.
Syracuse University

The SUSTAIN Scholarship is available to high-achieving Pell-eligible students who will pursue STEM majors within the College of Arts and Sciences. For more information on applying, email SUSTAINstem@syr.edu.
Texas Christian University
There are no additional requirements for initial consideration for scholarships. Students who are interested in the Chancellor’s Scholarship are highly encouraged to apply for admission by November 1, and if selected to compete will be invited to participate in an interview weekend.
The College of New Jersey
Students must apply by January 1 to be considered for priority merit scholarships. Most scholarships are awarded based on the application for admission, however, there are several opportunities with additional requirements: The Bonner Community Scholarship, Ellen Knowles Harcourt Scholarship and School of Engineering Scholarships. See the link for additional details.
Tulane University
Tulane no longer requires an additional application for merit scholarships, however, students may upload supporting documents to their Green Wave Portal to be considered in the scholarship review process. Students choosing to submit supplements or creative projects should use them to expand upon or enhance an aspect of their application, focusing on areas such as academics, creativity, leadership, and service. Submissions may be in any format listed on the upload screen. Video and audio submissions must not exceed 3 minutes.
University of Akron
Students are automatically considered for most merit scholarships, however, there are a few with separate applications. To be eligible for Williams Honors College Scholarships, students must apply to the Williams Honors College by April 1. Applications for the Choose Ohio First scholarship and the Goodyear Driving Opportunity scholarship are available at the link above.
University of Alabama
Additional scholarships are available to students by completing the UA Alabama Scholarship Award Manager (ASAM) scholarship application via the myBama.ua.edu portal. The priority deadline to complete the ASAM application for incoming freshmen is December 4.
University of Alabama at Birmingham
Students can complete the BSMART Scholarship Application for consideration for scholarships offered by various departments and organizations across UAB’s campus. The application submission deadline is April 1.
University of California, Berkeley
Some merit scholarships at UC Berkeley are only available to students who apply for financial aid. It is recommended that all students apply for financial aid to be considered for all scholarship opportunities.
Additionally, UC Berkeley has scholarship applications available from outside resources, including the UC Berkeley Alumni Association, on the website under “Search for Outside Scholarships”.
University of California, Irvine
UCI uses ScholarshipUniverse for students to apply and match to campuswide and external scholarships. Students can log in to ScholarshipUniverse with their UCInetID and password.
University of California, Los Angeles
The UCLA Scholarship Application opens in late March each year and remains open year-round with access to a number of scholarship opportunities. Priority consideration is given to admitted students who complete their application within two weeks of admission decisions being released. To maximize your opportunities, complete the optional questions on the general application and review your “Recommended” opportunities that require further information.
University of Central Missouri
The University of Central Missouri Provost Excellence Scholarship is awarded to one student each year, but all finalists qualify for impressive scholarship aid. Students must apply to UCM and also submit a Provost Excellence Scholarship application by December 1. Zoom and on-campus interviews will follow the application.
University of Colorado - Boulder
The CU Boulder Scholarship Application allows you to both apply for multiple CU Boulder scholarships with a general application and gain access to additional scholarship opportunities. The application opens December 1 with most scholarship applications due between February 15 to March 15.
CU Boulder offers a limited number of scholarships to academically promising new first-year students who are members of a federally recognized tribe. For those who are members of one of the 48 tribes with historical and present ties to Colorado, they also offer in-state tuition rates whether you are a resident of Colorado or not. Apply for admission by January 15 and provide one of the following documents proving tribal affiliation in a federally recognized tribe to the Office of Financial Aid (upon request) prior to scholarship offer being finalized: a copy of your tribal citizenship card (front and back) or a copy of your Certificate of Indian Blood (CDIB), which must contain a tribal seal or be on tribal letterhead, and must include your official identification number (e.g., census number, tribal citizenship number, enrollment number, certified tribal council number).
University of Connecticut
Priority consideration for automatic merit scholarships is given to students who apply for admission by December 1. While UConn automatically considers applicants for most merit scholarships, they also have several scholarships with additional applications.
The Stamps Scholarship is available to all applicants at the Storrs campus. The scholarship application will be available in the portal after an admission application has been submitted. Students must submit their admissions application and all supporting documents by November 1 and submit the Stamps Scholarship Supplemental Application by November 8.
The Nutmeg Scholarship and the Day of Pride Scholarship are available to Storrs applicants from Connecticut. Students must submit the admissions application by November 1 and the Nutmeg or Day of Pride Supplemental Application by November 8. Eligible students must choose to apply for either the Day of Pride Scholarship, the Nutmeg Scholarship, or the Stamps Scholarship, but may not apply to all three.
In addition to scholarships with automatic consideration, the University of Dayton has a variety of scholarships with additional applications. Students should complete the general application in AcademicWorks for priority consideration for donor-funded scholarships. Incoming students will be automatically considered; if you are matched with a donor-funded scholarship, you'll receive an email from the Office of Financial Aid with more information about how to log in to Academic Works and how to thank your donor.
An incoming student whose father, grandfather or uncle is a permanent, active deacon of the Roman Catholic or Orthodox Church may be eligible for a Deacon’s Scholarship. Students must apply for admission by our early action deadline of November 1st and provide the name of the Deacon, the Diocese and your relationship to the Deacon. Priority for the Deacon’s Scholarship is given to those with demonstrated need and students are encouraged to file the FAFSA by the priority filing date of February 1.
UD’s Alumni Association sponsors a $5,000 renewable scholarship awarded to a student whose parent or grandparent is a UD graduate. Students must apply for admission by our early action deadline of November 1st. Within the application, you will be able to provide the alumnus’ information. Priority consideration is given to students with demonstrated financial need, so file the FAFSA by the priority filing date of February 1. This award is typically made by late March.
Music talent awards for both majors and non-majors are available with an audition. Students who wish to be considered for visual arts scholarships must submit a portfolio to the visual arts faculty.
University of Findlay
Incoming freshmen are automatically considered for merit scholarships. Additional scholarship opportunities are available beginning sophomore year through endowed scholarships. Explore opportunities and deadlines at the link above.
University of Florida
Several scholarships are available at the University of Florida in addition to the automatic-consideration merit scholarships.
Students admitted to the Honors Program under Early Action will be eligible to apply for the Lombardi Scholarship & Stamps Scholarship. Visit the honors program website for additional information on scholarship application requirements.
Students who meet the income eligibility requirements for the Machen Florida Opportunity Scholars will be invited to complete the MFOS Supplemental form.
University of Georgia
The University of Georgia Foundation Fellowship requires an additional application, available at the link. Students must apply to Georgia and begin the Morehead Honors College Application early enough to gain access and complete the Foundation Fellowship application by November 1. Students who apply for the Foundation Fellowship will also be considered for the Henry King Stanford Scholarship (however, students cannot receive both).
UGA also offers departmental scholarships (click on College/Departmental Scholarships at the link above) and external scholarships through ScholarshipUniverse (click on External Scholarships at the link above).
University of Illinois
Students should complete the Undergraduate Scholarship Supplement form; this form is used to select recipients for restricted scholarship funds.
The University of Illinois also has a scholarship database. This is a dynamic list that is continuously updated to bring students the most current and accurate information. Students may search for scholarships alphabetically, by category or by all or part of the scholarship name. If searching by category, be sure to check University Scholarships for campus-wide scholarships as well as scholarships available in your college.
Illinois offers several scholarships for students with Native American affiliation. Applications are available at the link and must be completed by March 15.
The University of Kansas has UKASH, the University of Kansas Award & Scholarship Hub. This site will allow you to view and apply for many of the scholarship opportunities available. For additional scholarship opportunities, contact your academic department, as not all departments currently post their opportunities on UKASH. Deadlines vary by scholarship and new opportunities are posted as they become available.
University of Kentucky
Students must apply by December 1 to be considered for academic merit scholarships. In addition to automatic scholarships, students selected for competitive scholarships may be invited to interview. Applicants for the Presidential Scholarship and the Otis A. Singletary Scholarship must complete the competitive section of the admission application to be reviewed for these highly competitive scholarships.
Kentucky Residents: Applicants for the Kentucky Governor’s Scholar/School for the Arts/School for Entrepreneurs Presidential Scholarship must complete the competitive section of the admission application to have their application reviewed.
Several colleges and departments at UK administer their own scholarship programs. Students who have chosen an academic program are encouraged to contact their college/department regarding scholarship opportunities.
ScholarshipUniverse is available for currently enrolled UK students and admitted prospective students who have a linkblue account. Students can login to complete the student profile and search and apply for external and internal scholarship opportunities. Some programs are now utilizing Scholarship Universe for departmental scholarship applications, but UK still recommends checking with your respective college regarding their specific scholarship procedures and deadlines.
University of Maryland
University of Maryland uses ScholarshipUniversity for both UMD scholarships and outside scholarships. You can be matched with scholarships based on your major, minor, college, department, academic merits, financial need, hobbies, interests, affiliations and more.
All freshman applicants to the University of Maryland who meet the early action deadline of November 1 and are invited to the Honors College are considered for nomination to the Banneker/Key Scholarship. Semifinalists for the scholarship will be invited to interview as part of the final selection process.
No additional application is required for the President’s Scholarship and Dean’s Scholarship, but students must apply for admission by November 1 to be eligible.
University of Mary Washington
University of Mary Washington has a scholarship application for UMW Foundation Scholarships that must be completed online by May 1.
The Washington and Alvey scholarships require students to submit their admissions application by November 15.
Music scholarships require an audition.
University of Miami
The University of Miami has several Premier Scholarships; see the link for specific information on each of them. Students should apply to Miami by November 1 for consideration.
Semifinalists for the Stamps Scholarship will be invited to interview.
School counselors and current or former Hammond Scholars may submit an optional nomination for the Hammond Scholarship, but a nomination is not required. The nomination form will be available on September 1 and must be submitted by November 13.
The Jenkins Scholarship requires a school counselor nomination. The Counselor Nomination Form will be available September 1 and must be submitted by November 13. Nominated applicants must write and submit an additional statement in their Applicant Portal by December 1.
University of Michigan
Students should complete “My Scholarship Profile" in the Campus Finances section in Wolverine Access by February 15 to ensure full consideration for scholarships for the upcoming academic year. Some donor-provided scholarships awarded by the schools and colleges and the Office of Financial Aid require this additional detail. Several additional specific scholarships are also listed here under Steps 4 & 5.
Michigan also offers additional scholarship opportunities for the College of Engineering.
To apply to Freshman Competitive Scholarships, you must first apply for admission to the University of Mississippi and then complete the online Freshman Scholarship Application by January 10th.
Students should complete their admissions application for the University of Missouri early enough to allow access and enough time to complete the Mizzou Scholarship Application by December 1.
Premier Scholarships (Stamps Scholarship, Brazeal Scholarship, Boomba Tiger Scholarship and Discovery Fellows) are available to students in the Honors College. In order to ensure you have access to the Premier Scholars application in time to meet the Dec. 1 deadline, you are strongly encouraged to have applied to Mizzou and the Honors College by Nov. 1.Submit the Premier Scholars application via your Application Status Page.
Additional general and departmental scholarships are available through the Mizzou Scholarship Application Portal.
In addition to automatic Academic Scholarships, UNC also offers the Kenan Music Scholars Program, Thomas Wolfe Scholarship for Creative Writing, Chancellor’s Science Scholarship, Morehead-Cain Scholarship and Robertson Scholarship which require supplemental information. Visit the link above for application information and deadlines.
University of Notre Dame
The Notre Dame Scholars' Program selects prospective first-year Notre Dame students to receive various merit-based scholarship awards. There is no separate application to begin the process. Students who are selected will be invited in January through March to complete additional scholarship application steps.
University of Oregon
The Stamps, Presidential (Oregon residents only), Duck Excellence, and Home Flight (Oregon residents only) have additional applications. Stamps is due November 15 (must apply for admission to Oregon by November 1). Presidential and Duck Excellence are Due February 1 (must apply for admission by January 15). Home Flight is awarded on a rolling basis; applicants must be an enrolled citizen of one of the 574 federally recognized Tribes. Applications are available within the UO Scholarship Dashboard.

Students must apply by December 1 to be considered for automatic academic scholarships. Additionally, submission of a personal statement or the Common Application essay is required for scholarship consideration.
To be considered for the Rees-Chancellor’s Scholarship, students must meet the December 1 Frederick Honors College application deadline and be admitted into Frederick Honors College. Candidates selected for a first-round interview will be notified in December.
As an admitted or current Pitt student, you can log into PittFund$Me – hosted on the Scholarship Universe system – and answer a series of profile questions. The adaptive matching engine will display scholarship opportunities that are tailored to you.
University of Puget Sound
The Lillis Scholarship and Matelich Scholarship require a separate application due by December 1 for consideration. Talent scholarships in art, forensics, and theater have separate applications with a Jan 15 deadline. Music scholarships have various audition dates depending on your application plan; see the link above for the latest information.
Additionally, as part of the Posse Scholarship Program, Puget Sound selects 10 public high school students from the San Francisco Bay Area and awards each student with a full-tuition scholarship, regardless of financial need. The application and nomination process is coordinated by the Posse Foundation.
University of Rhode Island
Students must apply by December 1 for priority consideration for scholarships. Students will be initially considered based on their admission application, but may be invited to complete visits and/or interviews for specific scholarships.
The URI Narragansett Scholarship provides full, in-state tuition and fees for students of Narragansett ancestry. Students must have a tribal enrollment card or an official letter from the tribal administration that confirms membership through a direct family member (parents).
University of Richmond
There is no separate application for the Richmond Scholars program, however, all interested students must submit a complete admission application by December 1 regardless of application plan. Finalists will be invited to interview in mid-February.
University of Rochester
Most merit scholarships at the University of Rochester do not require additional applications, however, students must submit their admissions application by December 1 for maximum scholarship consideration, regardless of the application plan they choose.
The LGBTQ+ Pride Scholarship does have an additional application. It is awarded to academically excellent students engaged with LGBTQ+ issues, who are excited to expand Rochester’s passionate and diverse community, inclusive of sexual and gender identities. Students who self-identify as LGBTQIA on the Common App will be invited to complete the LGBTQ+ Pride Scholarship Application for consideration.
The Haudenosaunee Nations Scholarship is a full-tuition scholarship awarded to academically excellent students coming to URochester from one of the six nations: Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga, Seneca, or Tuscarora. The scholarship requires proof of tribal enrollment.
The Handler Scholarship requires a nomination from a recommender who is not related to the prospective student.
University of Southern California
Administered through the Office of Admission, USC Merit Scholarships do not have an additional application, but require students to apply for admission to the university by either November 1 or December 1, depending on their intended major.
Some USC scholarships are administered by organizations outside the Office of Admission. Most available scholarships are listed on Scholarship Universe. A few others, including some departmental awards and the Town and Gown Scholarship, are posted on individual websites.
University of Tennessee
For scholarship consideration at the University of Tennessee, students must indicate on the admissions application that they are interested in scholarships and complete the additional questions. Some scholarships require your admissions application to be submitted by November 1; others are January 5. See details for specific scholarships at the link above.
If you’re a current student, check with your college or department about their scholarship opportunities. Some colleges post information online about the scholarships they offer. Make sure you complete the Continuing Undergraduate & Transfer Student Scholarships application every spring by March 1.

University of Texas at Austin
Students apply to UT Austin by December 1 and complete the scholarship-specific questions available on the Scholarship Interest Form through MyStatus. Additional scholarship applications are available through the Longhorn Awards and Student Scholarship Opportunities (LASSO) database; students can search for and apply for scholarships there.
Applying to The University of Texas at Austin via the Common App or ApplyTexas automatically submits you as a candidate for the Forty Acres Scholars Program. A standalone application is no longer required. The priority deadline is October 15; the final deadline to apply is December 1. Only those students selected to move forward in the process will be contacted directly by the Forty Acres Scholars Program, at which point, if the student chooses to remain under consideration, there will be additional steps to complete.
University of Toledo
The Presidential Scholarship application at the University of Toledo is due November 1. Students are strongly encouraged to submit their admission application by October 15 to ensure they have time to access and complete the Presidential Scholarship application by the deadline.
The University of Toledo has a priority application deadline of December 15 for other merit scholarships.
Students can submit a general scholarship application and explore additional opportunities in the University of Toledo Scholarship Portal. Students can customize searches using a variety of criteria, review scholarship eligibility requirements and access applications. Deadlines will vary depending on the scholarship.
University of Toronto
To be eligible for the Lester B. Pearson International Scholarships at the University of Toronto you must be nominated by your school and apply to undergraduate studies at the University of Toronto. The nomination deadline is October 9, and the deadline to apply for admission to U of T and be considered for the Pearson Scholarship is October 16. Once you’ve been nominated and have submitted your admission application, you will be sent a personalized, secure link to the scholarship application. The scholarship application must be submitted by November 6.
University of Virginia and UVA Alumni Association
The University of Virginia offers various scholarships that require students to self-identify. A list is available at the link above. All students who believe they meet a scholarship's qualifications should email sfs@virginia.edu, indicating the scholarship for which they believe they are qualified. SFS will reply with further instructions. Some application forms are linked directly on the list.
The UVA Alumni Association offers various scholarships with their own application process, available at the UVA Alumni Association link above.
The Jefferson Scholars Foundation awards both the Jefferson Scholarship and the Walentas Scholarship for the University of Virginia. Students must be nominated by their school counselor and will be invited to complete next steps if selected for an interview.
University of Wisconsin
The University of Wisconsin has the Wisconsin Scholarship Hub (WiSH). To begin applying to scholarships, sign in with your NetID and complete the brief General Application. Based on your answers in the General Application, you will be directed to fill out more specific scholarship applications for which you are eligible. Deadlines vary by scholarship, but the applications typically open in October/November and have deadlines in early February.
The Creative & Performing Arts Scholarship requires an essay, resume, and portfolio, audition recording, or performance sample, depending on area of expertise by January 15.
Students who believe they may be eligible for a Zacharias Scholarship and would be interested in the Bomberger Leadership Scholarship must submit their Common Application and materials by December 15. Students must be awarded a Zacharias Scholarship at the time of admission to be eligible to apply by January 15. Students will be notified of their eligibility and invited to apply via direct communication from the Office of Admission.
For consideration for the Ursinus College Creative Writing Award, students should apply to the college by January 13, complete the Creative Writing Award application and submit no more than 10 (double spaced) pages of creative writing by January 15. We accept creative work in fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction, or some combination of genres. Interviews will then be held on campus in March.
Students interested in the Abele Scholars Program should apply to the college by December 30 and complete the required supplemental application by January 15.
For consideration for the PERSIST: Scholarships in STEM, students should apply to the college by March 13 and complete the online PERSIST application by March 15. Finalist interviews will be held virtually later in spring.
To be considered for merit scholarships, students must first apply for admission to Vanderbilt. Within 2-3 business days of submitting your application for admission to Vanderbilt, you will receive an email from the Office of Undergraduate Admissions explaining how to create your online MyAppVU account. Under the Scholarship tab in MyAppVU, you will be able to select the signature scholarship(s) to which you wish to apply. You will upload your responses for the scholarship applications as a PDF or Word document and submit online in the portal. Students interested in being considered for the Additional Merit Scholarships (Carell Family, Curb Leadership, and Fred Russell-Grantland Rice) are encouraged to submit the Cornelius Vanderbilt Scholarship application and should answer any additional scholarship specific questions. Applications for all scholarships must be submitted by December 1, so students should apply for admission early enough to allow access and time for completing the scholarship application.
Villanova University
Students interested in the Presidential Scholarship must submit a complete application for admission by January 15. Candidates will be selected by Villanova and invited to apply through their Applicant Status Page in the middle of January for Early Action and Early Decision I applicants and in February for Regular Decision and Early Decision II candidates. The deadline for the scholarship submission will be included in the candidate's invitation.
The Maguire Foundation Scholarship requires submission of the FAFSA and CSS Profile by January 15 and a Maguire Scholarship application by March 14.

Virginia Tech
Virginia Tech has a General Scholarship Application form due on January 22. Applicants can access the form through their admissions portal. A College/Departmental Scholarship Application may also be available depending on major. Students should visit Scholarship Central to view and apply for additional opportunities.
Wake Forest University
Most scholarships (including the full-cost of attendance Signature Scholarships) do not require a scholarship application, but only a completed admission application by November 15, even if applying under regular decision. Finalists for scholarships that require comprehensive interviews or auditions are notified by April.

Washington & Lee University
Washington & Lee’s Johnson Scholarship recognizes and rewards students on the basis of academic achievement, demonstrated leadership and integrity, and their potential to contribute to the intellectual and civic life of the W&L campus and the world at large in years to come. Applying for the Johnson Scholarship requires submission of a complete Common Application and the W&L Johnson Scholarship supplement, which consists of a second personal essay found in the W&L section of the Common App. Students who wish to be considered for any merit-based scholarship, including the Johnson Scholarship, must apply for admission by December 1 regardless of application plan (students do not need to apply ED for consideration).
Washington State University
Washington State University has a general scholarship application for students to complete to become eligible for multiple scholarship opportunities. Academic interests, talent, financial need, community service, leadership, career ambitions, campus involvement—any of these could qualify you for scholarship awards from WSU or from outside sources.
WSU also has a scholarship search portal where students can search and apply for scholarships.
Washington University in St. Louis
